Wistron NeWeb Corporation, the Acer Group's high-tech communications devision, today won multiple Innovations 2001 awards for the iRhythm? Remote Tuner and the Phaser Remote Control Extender. Innovations 2001 is the Consumer Electronics Association's prestigious competition, honoring product excellence in Design and Engineering.

Entries in the Innovations 2001 Design & Engineering Honors Program were judged by a panel of 22 industry experts. Product evaluations were based on weighted criteria: value to user, aesthetics, contributions to the quality of life, as well as the product's innovative qualities. The program recognizes the most innovative products in 19 categories.
The iRhythm Remote Tuner was honored with the Innovations 2001 award for audio. The iRhythm enables consumers to wirelessly control and transmit Internet radio and MP3 files from their PC to their home stereo system or a pair of headphones. Using the iM Networks' (formerly Sonicbox) iM? Tuning Services, iRhythm listeners can tune into stations on the broadband-optimized iM Band ? or to any station on the Web, as well as develop and run personal MP3, Windows Media, and Real Audio play lists.

The iRhythm itself consists of three hardware pieces including a base station, a receiver and remote. The base station connects to a PC via a USB port and transmits audio utilizing 900 MHz wireless technology to a receiver. The receiver connects to a stereo's audio inputs, delivering MP3s or Internet radio music through the speakers. The third piece, a RF remote control, allows users to control the iM Tuning Service user interface and change radio stations or adjust the volume.
The Phaser received the Innovations 2001 award for Video Accessories. The Phaser is a remote control extender that allows consumers to sue their standard infrared remote to operate their audio or video source from anywhere in the house. Traditional remote control extenders require either a device to put over the top of the remote control or an external device at which the remote control must be pointed.

The Phaser's transmitter, however, comes in a unique design that fits into the battery cavity of the remote control. Powered by a complementary battery, the transmitter takes the places of either one AA or AAA battery.
Utilizing an UHG signal, the Phaser allows the use of the remote control up to 50 meters away, through walls, doors, ceilings and floors, making the device ideal for use anywhere in the home - or even outdoors.
'the receipt of multiple Innovation 2001 awards is not only a great achievement' said Felix Chen, Marketing Manager for Acer NeWeb, 'it also validates Acer NeWeb's product concept.'
